Police Arrest U.S. Sailor on Robbery-Murder Charges

Police arrested a U.S. sailor Saturday on suspicion of robbing and killing a Japanese woman Tuesday in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Earlier in the day, the United States agreed to transfer custody of the suspect, William Reese, 21, to the Kanagawa prefectural police after the police obtained a warrant for his arrest.According to police sources, Reese admitted to Japanese police Friday to killing Yoshie Sato, 56.
The serviceman had been held at the U.S. naval base in Yokosuka.After police obtained court approval Saturday to arrest Reese, the Japanese government asked the United States to hand him over.Sato was found beaten to death near a building in Yokosuka on Tuesday morning and her wallet had been emptied.
She died from the rupture of internal organs.The sources said that shortly after the incident, Reese returned to the Yokosuka base with bloodstains on his clothing.
