Plot to Kidnap Blair's Son: Fathers 4 Justice Halts Operations

Fathers 4 Justice tonight announced it was to suspend operations following reports of a plot among a "dark underbelly" of former members to kidnap the prime minister's five-year-old son Leo.
Matt O'Connor, the founder, said on the group's website that he would investigate the allegations but if it was "constantly undermined by extremists, we will shut down the Fathers 4 Justice campaign".The existence of the plot emerged today with a report in the Sun that anti-terrorist officers from the Metropolitan police had foiled the kidnap attempt.

A statement on the group's website said police had been in touch with former members to warn them they would be shot on sight if they went ahead with the plans.
Neither the Metropolitan police nor Downing Street have confirmed or denied the existence of a kidnap plot.
In guarded comments, the prime minister's official spokesman said "the overwhelming public view is that people harm their causes by engaging in protests that are not peaceful".
