Akure (Nigeria):
Mixed reactions greeted the appearance yesterday afternoon in Akure of the moon, a day after the new traditional ruler of the town, Oba Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina, was presented the instrument of office.
Concerned residents of the town drew the attention of Newsmen in Akure the state capital to the appearance of the moon.
Some of them described the incident on the day the seven-year-old chieftaincy crisis of the town was resolved as a good omen and a celestial approval by God.But, others said it was a bad omen that would need a rethink and an appeasement of the gods.
Newsmen contacted the chairman of the kingmakers in the town, High Chief Folorunso David, on the purported “strange” development.
High Chief David dismissed the fear that it was a bad omen.Said he: “I do not believe that the appearance of the moon is a bad omen rather it is a good omen.“God had instructed us to do what we did by presenting the instrument of office to the Oba that day, it was God's directive that that event must hold on that day that you see the moon.“It is a sign of good omen if anybody says otherwise that person is only wishing himself bad.Interestingly, it was the newsmen that drew the attention of the chairmen of the kingmakers to the appearance of the moon in broad-day light.
But some other persons interviewed in the Akure metropolis said they were concerned by the development.
