Bidor (Malaysia):
The mystery behind deaths of over 100 pigeons in Bidor last Saturday continues, with laboratory tests ruling out the most popular hypothesis circulated among local townsfolk - that they had been poisoned.
State Health, Science and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Tan Chin Meng said common poisons including paraquat, a weed-killer, and pesticide groups such as organocholorine and organophosphorus, were not found in the sample sent to the Veterinary Research Institute. VRI, which ruled out avian influenza or bird flu on Sunday, had sent him a report observing that AI was an infectious disease, which would have spread rapidly among the birds.
