Man Loses Palm As Strange Object Explodes
New Delhi (India):
Little did a 47-year-old man know that a morning walk could cost him his palm. Ram Murti who had gone for a stroll with his grandson, near the Naini Lake, landed himself in trouble after a strange object exploded in his hand.A resident of Model Town, Murti saw something unusual in his grandson Pinku’s hand. "The object seemed to be dangerous. It was a boat-shaped solid object covered with nylon net. I took it from his hand and pushed him towards the other end of the road. Before I could throw it, the strange object exploded in my hand," says Murti who was a furniture painter.Though he was rushed to a nearby clinic, the doctor refused to attend him as it was an accidental case. Murti alongwith his three-year-old, grandson, who suffered minor injuries, finally got first aid treatment after almost an hour at the Hindu Rao Hospital near Malkaganj. Many dailies reported that Murti lost his thumb, but according to a hospital staff, he was brought in a serious condition and had to lose his wrist. Murti is left-handed and amputation of the wrist has left him disabled.According to the police officials, the explosive was an under-water bomb used by the fishermen to terrorise fishes and restrict them to one place. " However, we are further investigating the matter to find more details," said Sagar Preet Hooda, additional DCP north-west district.
