Mystery fever baffles doctors

The mystery fever in Malda continues to baffle doctors.Though it was officially stated that two more patients died of the fever in the district, the people’s representatives claimed that five persons died today. The Malda CMOH today said that since 29 August 23 people have died of the fever.“The doctors have not found symptoms of dengue in the patients admitted to different hospitals in the district,” a senior member of the IMA, said.“It is completely an unknown viral fever, causing deaths of several patients and still the virus is unidentified. Before identification of virus a doctor cannot prescribe specific medicines to save the lives of the patients”, he added. According to official sources, Chhabi Karkamakar (45) and Tapasi Mondal, a one-and-half year-old baby, died of mystery fever today. “We have not been able to detect the virus’’, said the DM.However, according to unofficial sources, five more persons died of the mystery fever today. They are Charki Mudi and her three-day-old child in Gazole block, Kajal Saha (35) of Mangalbari village under Old Malda block, Sutapa Das (22) of Harishchandrapur and Dwijen Mandal (41) of Ratua block.
