New York (US):
A massive hunt for a prize-winning whippet was scaled down yesterday, slightly dimming hopes that the dog will be found alive.
Vivi, fresh off picking up an Award of Merit at the Westminster Kennel Club show in Madison Square Garden, somehow bolted from her travel cage Wednesday at Kennedy Airport.
Vivi, whose full name is Ch Bohem C'est La Vie and is estimated to be worth $50,000, escaped from her kennel as it was loaded onto the 11:55 a.m. Delta flight back to Los Angeles.
The 3-year-old dog was last seen printing across marshland beside the airport.New York's Center for Animal Care and Control also was hunting for the dog in residential areas near the airport yesterday, though the Port Authority's helicopter and boat were no longer being deployed.
Vivi's distraught owner, Jil Walton, 39, said, "I'm hoping that she has hunkered down somewhere, that she's terrified and she's hiding for a couple of days before she's brave enough to come out."
