Talking Walls: Old Love Letter Found in Historic Home

Grants Pass, Oregon (US):
Did Rose write back to Fred? Did Rose ever even see his love letter? And what was with that mother of hers? Mysteries all.
But the long-ago letter that slipped out from behind a baseboard in a historic house here raises bittersweet questions about how it all turned out. The date on the letter to Rose Galvin is indecipherable. It carries just a one-cent stamp, which doesn‘t help. One-cent stamps were issued as early as 1851 but U.S. Postal charts say the first-class rate for a letter has never been less than two cents. A stamp may have fallen off.
"The more I study it, the less I know what to do, at last have come to the conclusion to let it be decided by you," Fred writes. "Whatever you say I will do." "It won‘t be so hard to get rid of me as your mother thinks," he writes.
He notes the mother‘s apparent mistrust of him because he is not Catholic. Denise and Robert Holland purchased the Galvin House in January. Contractors found the letter last week.
