As more details come to light about a shotgun attack Wednesday in northwest Odessa that left three people dead and one man in critical condition, the incident appears to be increasingly bizarre.
According to court documents, a man identified as Leo Angel Luna — who is jailed on three capital murder charges — left 3602 Merrill Ave. with a small child after the shootings.The child was Luna’s and is currently in the care of family members.
According to a death notice that ran in the Odessa American in August 2001, Luna and Diana Ponce were the surviving parents of a 1-month-old girl. Diana Ponce, 19, was one of the people killed Wednesday.
Diana Ponce died after being transported to Medical Center Hospital where an emergency Caesarean section was performed. Efforts to resuscitate the baby weren’t successful, leading to the second murder charge.
The third murder charge was filed in regard to the death of 49-year-old Blanca Ponce, who had been shot and killed inside the house, according to police reports.
