Sharon Laughs Off Weight Issues

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who suffered a minor stroke last week and now faces a heart procedure, made light of his closely watched weight problems on Tuesday.
Following a Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony with university students at his office, the self-admitted food lover showed restraint as he invited his young guests to dig into a plate full of jelly-filled doughnuts.
"Now, you help yourselves, since the main issue everybody is talking about today is my weight and it has become a national mystery. So that I do not have to get on the scales after this, I will leave you now and you enjoy what there is here," he said to a burst of laughter.

Meanwhile, seeking to end speculation about Sharon's weight, doctors said the 5-foot-7 Sharon weighed 260 pounds at the time of the stroke, and has since lost more than six pounds. The stroke raised questions about his health as he campaigns for a third term as prime minister. On Monday, his doctors said in the coming weeks they will seal a small hole in his heart that led to the stroke.
