FedEx is investigating why dozens of packages that passed through the Kansas City area this month, including some Christmas gifts, never made it to their destinations.
An apartment complex employee discovered the problem Tuesday when he stumbled upon about 36 packages in a vacated apartment in the 7900 block of Sycamore Avenue in Kansas City. The packages, some of which were opened, had contained items such as computer equipment and a bicycle.
Those items were missing. Other opened boxes contained new shirts from one family member to another. The packages were addressed to people and businesses across the country. None was addressed to the man who had occupied the apartment. He was evicted this month, said Police Officer George Springer.
Police believe the items were stolen, but they don’t know how or from where. Invoices indicate the packages were sent from various locations between Dec. 7 and Dec. 20.
