E. Rapalo, the county's corrections department placed two guards on leave Thursday and began tightening security throughout the jail from where the accused ''Shenandoah Rapist'' escaped this week.Detectives have traced at least two phone calls made by Rapalo since he escaped, said Miami Police Chief John Timoney.
He did not reveal more details.Rapalo was arrested in September 2003 and accused of raping seven females, ages 11 to 79, and attempting to attack four others in the Shenandoah neighborhood of Miami since September 2002. His trial was set for February.

He escaped late Tuesday from the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center near Miami International Airport by using dozens of bed sheets to rappel down at least six stories. Another inmate broke his ankles during the escape and was recaptured.
New information helped paint a clearer picture of what happened that night.Rapalo was visited that day by Dr. Cristina Miller, who was preparing to do psychological tests as part of his defense case. He did not appear anxious, she told detectives, according to his attorney. At about 7:30 p.m., Adrian King, the corrections officer in charge of Rapalo's unit, told investigators that another officer asked him to conduct a ''physical window'' check, according to his statement to investigators obtained by The Miami Herald.
It is unclear whether anything prompted that check, but jail officials say such procedures are routine.About two hours later, a visitor to the jail alerted guards that someone was scaling down the outside wall using ''ropes.'' The jail's central command unit quickly ordered a formal head count of the prisoners.
When it became apparent Rapalo and another inmate were missing at about 9:30 p.m., the guards tried to call 911 but could not get through immediately, according to King's statement.
