Queensland (Australia):
A George Cross bravery award found on a Queensland beach has been traced to a British family who reported it stolen in England 17 years ago.
The George Cross, one of the top two British awards for bravery, was presented to Flying Officer Anthony Tollemache in 1940. It was found on Maroochydore Beach in February after being stolen from his family in London in 1988.
How the cross ended up on the other side of the world is a mystery but thanks to the efforts of Constable Brendan Laverty from the Mooloolaba Police Beat, it will be returned to Mr Tollemache's family. Const Laverty said the medal, estimated to be worth £15,000 ($35,730), was found by a member of the public and handed to police.
