Johannesburg (South Africa):
The murder of a newly-elected African National Congress councillor and two other people in Kwashoba near Ezingolweni over the weekend was no coincidence, KwaZulu-Natal MEC Mike Mabuyakhulu said on Monday.
"We condemn in the strongest terms possible the brutal slaying of Mr Zakhele Cele and the others. The three died while they were sleeping in a house on Saturday night. It was believed police found spent AK47 assault rifle and 9mm cartridges on the scene. The Kwashoba area is close to Shobashobane where more than 20 people were massacred in political violence in 1995.Mabuyakhulu called on the eZinqoleni community to remain calm and not to be provoked by this "senseless killing".
