Plymouth, Massachusetts (US):
Neil Entwistle was conspicuously absent yesterday as his murdered wife and child were buried together in a single casket in Plymouth, .
Mr Entwistle’s sobbing mother-in-law, Priscilla Matterazzo, led hundreds of mourners in an emotional funeral at the same Catholic church where the British-born baby had been baptised only seven weeks ago.
The English webmaster, who returned to his parents’ home in Nottingham around the time of the double murder, was not mentioned once in the service — although he was on the mind of every mourner. “I think he should have been here because it’s his wife and daughter, but he stayed away for his own reasons,” Debbie Eastman, a friend of the victims’ family, said.
Mr Entwistle’s in-laws prayed in a circle around the oversized casket as the service began in St Peter’s Church, where the Entwistles were married in 2003.
Rachel Entwistle, 27, and her nine-month-old baby, Lillian, received a final farewell from dozens of members of the Matterazzo and Souza families, representing Rachel’s mother and late father Paul Souza, but there was no visible representation from the Entwistle family.
