Mystery shrouds death of over 2 dozen birds in Jammu

Fear gripped the Ranbir Singh Pora belt near the Indo-Pak border in the district after the mysterious deaths of over two dozen birds, a top animal husbandry department official said here today.
Animal husbandry department director R K Dhar said that two dozen birds, mostly sparrows, died under mysterious circumstances in Derian border village yesterday. He said samples were collected and sent to the Jalandhar- based forensic laboratory for tests, including that of bird flu. The birds died yesterday afternoon died in the house of one Baboo Raj Chowdary.
Panic stricken villagers informed the police, tehsildar and animal husbandry department, and doctors and revenue officials team rushed to area to take stock of the situation.
