Another Stllborn Baby Body Missing at Hospital Morgue

The body of a second stillborn baby is missing from a hospital mortuary.This was discovered by health officials when a family came to the Lautoka Hospital mortuary to take the body home for burial.
Hospital authorities had been looking for the body of another stillborn baby they discovered missing from the same morgue on Monday. The family observed funeral rites and buried his empty coffin yesterday.The second family was forced to bury an empty coffin yesterday after observing similar funeral rites.
Relatives and friends gathered yesterday to conduct the awkward funeral ceremonies after hospital officials failed to locate the bodies of two baby boys.Divisional police commander Western Senior Superintendent Emori Laqai said while the police force did not believe in witchcraft, every investigation was conducted with an open mind.
The father of the second baby, Paula Tuilau, of Matavolivoli Settlement, in Nadi told his relatives at 2pm to continue with the funeral ceremony at the Enamanu Cemetery after officials told him the body was missing.
Mr Tuilau said his child, who was stillborn last Thursday, was discovered missing when he went to collect the body at 9am yesterday. The general manager of Lautoka Hospital, Doctor Eloni Tora, said the bodies of the two babies disappeared from the mortuary.
Dr Tora said they had reported the matter to police and investigations were being conducted.
