Neil Entwistle’s father yesterday called the death of his daughter-in-law and granddaughter, allegedly at his son’s hand, “our great loss.” Breaking the stoic silence family members have maintained since the murders a month ago, Clifford Entwistle also said they are deciding whether to brave the spotlight to be at their son’s trial.

“(We’re) still looking at the situation,” he said. The family is holding up, he added, with the help of neighbors. The father refused to comment on his son’s arraignment Thursday on murder charges. Neil Entwistle allegedly killed his wife, Rachel, and daughter, Lillian Rose, with his father-in-law’s gun.
The Entwistles have not contacted Rachel’s parents since Neil’s Feb. 9 arrest, a person familiar with the situation said. Meanwhile, a freshly showered and rested Neil Entwistle met with his attorney behind the Plexiglas walls of his Cambridge jail yesterday.
