Damascus (Syria):
Syrian President Bashar Asad accused Israel of being behind the death of legendary Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, the cause of whose death still remains a mystery.”Of the many assassinations that Israel carried out in a methodical and organized way, the most dangerous step that Israel took was the assassination of President Yasser Arafat,” told Asad in the Arab Bar Union gathering.
Asking the lawyers to investigate the issue, the Syrian leader said those who launched an investigation about the assassinated Lebanese leader Refik Hariri are after evidences to accuse the Damascus administration; however, they remain silent about Arafat’s death. Rejecting the allegations targeting Tel Aviv following the deterioration of Arafat’s health condition, Israel had refuted the allegations that “it poisoned Arafat”.
The cause of Arafat’s death still remains a mystery. Arafat lost his life at a military hospital on 11 November 2004 in Paris. Asad did not make a clear explanation about "how Israel killed Arafat".
His accusation came after Israel alleged that “Damascus and Tehran played a role” in the suicide attack occurring in Tel Aviv three days ago.
