Kentwood, Michigan (US):
Genetic material found in blood drawn from refugees of the former Yugoslavia now living in Michigan could help identify some of the thousands of human remains found there in mass graves or dumped in forests.
"I want to find my brother," said Huzier Behlic, 38, of Detroit. He was among the war refugees who went to a hotel in suburban Grand Rapids on Sunday and Monday to give blood samples to members of the International Commission on Missing Persons.
The group was organized a decade ago to locate the mass graves in Bosnia and Kosovo, where an estimated 40,000 people -- mostly men and boys -- disappeared during the war in the early 1990s.The organization has created a DNA database system to identify the more than 26,000 bodies that have been found.
Since November 2001, the organization has made 8,607 matches between victims and surviving relatives.
