Dehra Dun, Uttaranchal (India):
Four tigresses have died in the Jim Corbett National Park in the last two months and wildlife officials are not sure how.Preliminary reports, however, suggest most of them were devoured by other animals.
The possibility of a tiger being the “main culprit” is not ruled out.“There is suspicion that these tigresses might have been killed by a tiger. We have picked up certain clues like pug marks that raise the suspicion that it was the work of a male tiger,” said Corbett deputy director Vivek Pandey.
He added that patrolling in the park has been stepped up. A team from Wildlife India International is also being sent to the park for detailed investigations. On January 19, the first of the four tigresses was found dead in the Bijrani area of the park.
It was reported that she might have been attacked by a tiger.
