The on-off wedding of Brad Pitt, 42, and Angelina Jolie, 30, appeared to be off again last night after a day of rumour and expectation ended in disappointment for their fans when Hollywood’s most glamorous couple failed to turn up.
Italian newspapers have been speculating in recent days that the pair, expecting a child in the summer, would tie the knot at George Clooney’s sumptuous villa at Laglio, on the shore of Lake Como. Clooney, 44, is a long-time friend of Pitt.
The rumour mill was given a further spin yesterday morning after Simona Saladini, the mayor of nearby Cernobbio, resplendent in a bright pink suit, was spotted having her hair done at a local salon.
But as the day wore on and the gangs of photographers whiled away the time playing football and taking pictures of ducks on the lake, the rumours appeared to be no more than that.
