The U.S. President, George W. Bush, said on Thursday that an American diplomat in the foreign service was killed in a bombing at the U.S. consulate in Pakistan.
At least one bomb exploded Thursday outside the U.S. consulate and a luxury hotel in the southern city of Karachi, killing three people and wounding 34 others, two days ahead of a visit to Pakistan by Bush. Speaking in New Delhi, Bush said that among the dead was a foreign service officer. He did not elaborate.
``We have lost at least one U.S. citizen in the bombing, a foreign service officer,'' Bush said at a joint news conference with Indian Prime Minster Manmohan Singh.
