Anthrax patient worsens in hospital

A drummaker who became infected with anthrax after inhaling spores from raw animal hides remained in serious condition Saturday as officials again reassured there was no public health risk.
Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., where Vado Diomande was staying, issued a statement Friday saying he had "experienced increased difficulty breathing during the course of the day, resulting in a change in his condition to serious."Diomande, 44, who also is a dancer, traveled in December to Ivory Coast, in West Africa, and returned with several goat hides he used to make drums.
He began feeling flulike symptoms in January before collapsing last week after a dance performance in Mansfield, Pa.
