________
James David Gilmore Jr. answered the door of his Baldwin Park home, said he was going out and left.
The 14-year-old was missing for 23 years until a workman fixing the former Gilmore home on Bess Avenue discovered the teen's skeleton under the house. He'd been buried face down in a sandy, shallow grave.
Gilmore's death remains one of the more bizarre mysteries in the San Gabriel Valley. He went missing Jan. 7, 1962, and his family continued to live in the same house for another 11 years. There's never been a suspect named in the investigation.
Two new detectives have been assigned to the case. Detectives conducted lie detector tests on Jimmy's brother, father and mother.
Jimmy's father, also named James, was living with a friend in a trailer in La Puente when his son vanished, Mondry said. Jimmy's body was found beneath a bedroom that his brother said belonged to their parents.
