One of the pioneers of African wildlife film production was killed at her home in the Great Rift Valley in Kenya yesterday in the latest of a series of attacks that have shocked the expatriate community.
Joan Root, who with her former husband, Alan, earned world renown for their daring documentaries — often made using a hot-air balloon — was shot three times in her bedroom in Naivasha, a popular tourist destination 55 miles northwest of Nairobi.
Police said that they were treating the case as murder, as nothing had been stolen from the lakeside home.
