The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) still does not know the cause of eel deaths in a number of western district lakes in recent weeks.
The latest has been reported in Lake Modewarre, near Colac, with others also at Bolac and Colac.The EPA's manager of science, Tony Robinson, says tests of the eels and water are so far proving inconclusive, but a virus or bacteria is not being ruled out.
