Oahu (Hawaii):
It's a false sense of security. "You figure once you're in the building and on your floor that you're pretty safe," says Pat Walsh, condominium president. Only residents are supposed to have access. "But we found out that might not be the case," says Walsh.
"We have somebody out there that has access to many condos," says Phil Shope, resident manager. Phil Shope is resident manager of a Waikiki condominium. Two weeks ago, he caught a man on surveillance video entering his building using a security key he's not supposed to have. Shope says he caught the man taking the security key out of a lock box.
Thousands of condominium and apartment buildings across Oahu have one of these for emergency entry.
Only the Fire Department and elevator companies are supposed to have the master key to the lock boxes, but Shope says somehow this guy got a hold of one. "All resident managers should be aware, this guy is out there and he has access to their condos," says Shope.
