Aizwal, Mizoram (India):
The residents of Baite village are spending sleepless nights as their cattle have fallen prey to a myterious nocturnal hunter, presumed to be a leopard.
According to officials of the State wildlife department, the animal, which has not been spotted yet and has been presumed to be a leopard, has been regularly preying on the domestic animals and all attempts by the department to capture it has failed.
To capture the animal, it has to lay a bait, but the department is not being able to use this ploy as the local people leave their animals to graze in the open, thus providing food for the animal in plenty.
