Flight Aborted After Bomb 'Joke'

The crew of a Southwest Airlines jet with 137 passengers on board aborted take-off from an airport outside Los Angeles on Friday after a young man joked about having a bomb in his luggage.
Five Las Vegas-bound passengers on Southwest Airlines Flight 2074, including the man who had mentioned a bomb, were taken into custody as Police searched the plane for more than two hours before determining that no explosives were on board.
"Shortly after push-back flight crew members heard some young folks who were traveling together joking about what they might have on board in their bags," said Southwest spokeswoman Beth Harbin.
The crew members "did what they were trained to do, which was contact the captain, and the authorities elected to search the aircraft," she said.The man's name was not immediately released. He was identified as being around 25 to 30 years old.
