Nunavut's department of education has a team in Qikiqtarjuaq trying to figure why people at the local school have been experiencing allergy-like symptoms.
Inuksuit School has been closed since last week, when people began to complain of rashes, hives and watery eyes.Nunavut's department of Education has flown in experts to assess the situation.
Qikiqtarjuaq is a community of about 500 located about 470 kilometres north of Iqaluit."What we've done is we've sent in a team, they're on site right now and we're optimistic that within a day or certainly by the end of this week, we will know with certainty what is causing it and have a solution," says Lorne Levy, the manager of capital planning for the department.In the meantime, the school is closed, giving 150 students and teachers an unexpected break.
