Lagos (Nigeria):
A suspected kidnapper, who was found in possession of four kids, was burnt to death by an irate mob in Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Saturday.
Similarly, but for the timely intervention of policemen attached to the Adekunle Police Station, Lagos, a 41 year old woman, found with two children allegedly concealed in a food cooler would have been killed as an angry mob almost lynched her. Sunday Independent reliably gathered that the suspect in the Ikorodu case, who spoke Igbo dialect and dressed in rags, as though insane, invaded Lowa Estate and its environs, along Lagos Road, Ikorodu at about 7am.
The suspect was caught in possession of four kids whose average ages range between two and six and concealed them in a Ghana-Must-Go bag and waspushing them in a wheel-barrow until nemesis caught up with him.
One of the children was said to have screamed thus attracting attention.
The suspected kidnapper was said to have, at Transformer junction of Haruna bus stop, along Lagos Road, Ikorodu touched the fourth child he picked up with a charm on his chest.
But rather than becoming unconscious, the boy screamed and drew the attention of those within the vicinity who asked him (the suspected kidnapper), to open his bag.
At various points those who identified him when he was caught disclosed that the suspect was found loitering around Mabadeje Street, down to Nurudeen Owolabi, Kalejaiye, Ajenifuja - all streets within Lowa Estate.
But before he could oblige, it was learnt that the suspect broke a bottle and threatened to stab whoever that dared attack him.
But within a twinkle of an eye, an irate mob which had gathered surged forward and attacked him with cudgels and clubs.
In the kidnap case around Adekunle Police Station, Lagos, yesterday, the suspected kidnapper a 41 year old woman, narrowly escaped death following the intervention of policemen.
The woman according to a witness, was said to be going from Ikoyi part of the state to the Mainland, when policemen on a stop and search, approached her on Osborn Road, near Dolphin Estate.
When the woman opened the door of the Toyota Hiace bus she was traveling with, a very big cooler was found inside.
It was gathered that, the police had allowed the woman to proceed with her journey, when suddenly a mob emerged from nowhere and blocked the highway, which forced the vehicle to stop.
As soon as the bus stopped, the angry youths pounced on it, dragged her down with the cooler claiming that she had children inside the cooler.
The mob had descended on the woman with all sorts of objects, when the policemen rushed to the scene and rescued her.
However, according to a policeman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the allegation that the woman had children inside the cooler was very strange.
“When we stopped her, she had no child with her. In fact the children allegedly aged about four and eight would find it very difficult to survive in a cooler for a long distance.”
The woman, the policeman said, is a trader at Mile 12 market and was heading to the market at about 9.30am when the incident occurred.
The source stressed that the woman was taken to Adekunle police station after which she was let go by the law enforcement agents.
