Film on Mysterious Death Delayed Until After Murder Trial

A movie inspired by the mysterious death of British tourist Peter Falconio in the outback has had its release in Australia's Northern Territory postponed until after the trial of a truck driver charged with his murder.
"Whether the movie would or would not have prejudiced the trial remains undecided," Northern Territory Chief Justice Brian Martin said in announcing that Roadshow Films had agreed to delay the release of "Wolf Creek" with the trial starting on Monday.
"I express the gratitude of this court to Roadshow for taking a responsible attitude and in avoiding the risk of prejudice by delaying the release of the movie in the Northern Territory."
The thriller "Wolf Creek" is scheduled for national release on November 3. case and the serial killings of seven backpackers betweenPreviews of the film, inspired by the Falconio 1989 and 1992, have been screened in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Falconio disappeared, believed murdered, after he and his British girlfriend Joanne Lees were ambushed on a lonely outback highway in 2001.
Australian truck driver Bradley Murdoch will stand trial on Monday for Falconio's murder. Murdoch, 45, will also be tried for the abduction of Lees, who escaped after they were ambushed on the Stuart Highway in central Australia on July 14, 2001.
The trial will be held in the Territory's capital Darwin and is likely to last six to eight weeks.
