‘Satanic” Fire Guts House in African Village
Lilongwe, Malawi (Malawi):
A middle class family in Area 18A in Lilongwe has been left homeless after a mysterious fire preceded by written warnings on walls, food, furniture and through anonymous letters gutted their house on Wednesday destroying goods worth over a K1 million.
Eye witnesses Pempherani Banda and Lawrence Chiotcha who were working in the house told Weekend Nation, the fire started around 14:45 when they were outside the house saying they saw it after it had already spread in the whole house.
The two said the fire came a few weeks after the family received several warnings through writings on various parts of the house and anonymous letters that the family would be killed.
They said earlier on they received warnings believed to have been written by someone of the satanic cult [name withheld]. According to them, the warnings were scribbled on bags of maize, door frames, ceiling, refrigerator and floor, among other places.
“They warned that the fire would start at 12pm and that the family would be killed. They also warned the family not to eat the maize that was scribbled,” said Banda.
Donald Maosa, the owner of the house who works for Olliveti said the cause of the fire has not yet been established but he was quick to rule out any technical fault saying the wiring was perfect and no equipment was left on.
Maosa confirmed the family received various warnings written on the walls, furniture, ceiling, bag of maize, door frames and through anonymous letters but he said they left everything in the hands of God.
“We took the warnings serious but being Christians we left everything in the hands of God,” said Maosa who is now staying with a brother in-law in Area 12.
One message read: “Ndapha anthu 50...ndipha Maosa family yonse..ndine presidenti wakumidima ndimatha kuzunguliza nyumba ndikutembenuza bedi. (I have killed 50 people. I will kill the whole Maosa family..I am the president of the abyss. I can rotate the house and turn the bed around). The two said Living Waters and Catholic Church priests have so far been going to the house for prayers. “They are coming almost everyday because they believe whatever caused the fire was still in the house,” said Banda who disclosed that the matter has not yet been reported to police.
