Soap Star Struck by Mystery Illness
London (UK):
Eastenders star Joe Swash last night remained in a serious condition in hospital with a mystery illness.
The heart-throb, who plays cheeky Mickey Miller in the BBC soap, was rushed to casualty by frantic mum Kiffy after falling ill at her home on Monday.
His anxious family, including sister Shana, who plays his on-screen sister Demi, were keeping a vigil by his bedside.
The 23-year-old actor, from Islington, London, is undergoing tests.
A source close to Joe said: "His mum and sisters are devastated. The girls lost their dad, Ricky, to a heart attack in 1992."
BBC bosses are in close contact with his family and cast members are being kept up to date.
Scriptwriters are looking at storylines to explain Mickey's sudden departure if Joe does not return to filming soon.
A source close to the show said: "There is nothing salacious or sordid about Joe's illness despite speculation his partying lifestyle is to blame.
"He's a lovely bloke and we hope he recovers soon."
Joe joined EastEnders two years ago and revelled in his status as a heart-throb.
He's currently at the centre of a major story line featuring veteran The Bill actor Mark Wingett as his long-lost father.
