Unknown Shooter Maims Family Pets
Miramichi, New Brunswick (Canada):
Looking at her beloved dog Puppy, Debbie Kenny can't figure out why anyone would take aim and shoot her.
Puppy and a second dog Tiny were shot at in Kenny and Danny Gray's Miramichi front yard.
The couple's home was shot at three separate times on Sept 14. Tiny, a docile, 10-year-old Rottweiler will be fine, but only time will tell if 12-pound Puppy will be permanently paralysed.
Police are investigating the incident and searching for the culprit.
"They were definitely aiming at our animals but I don't know why," Kenny said.
The couple share their home with their three children and two cats.
On Sept. 14, Kenny and Gray were out celebrating Kenny's birthday when tragedy struck.
Their daughters Sarah and Laura were at their McKinnon Road home when Gray received a call from Sarah telling him to come home.
Sarah had heard something that sounded like shots around 7 p.m. but wasn't sure.
She rushed outside and found Tiny bleeding near their house. Sarah took her inside and called her father, who immediately rushed home.
At first they thought that someone playing with a pellet gun accidentally hit Tiny. After the shooting, 184-pound Tiny seemed to shake it off and they thought everything was fine. They think Tiny must have been walking away because the bullet lodged into her haunches.
Gray drove around the neighborhood trying to find whoever shot Tiny with no luck and left again to meet up with Kenny.
As soon as he found Kenny, they got a call from their daughter Laura saying their other dog Puppy, a terrier/poodle mix, was shot at around 8 p.m. The dog had been tethered to the house, making her an easy target. At first they didn't realize she too had been shot, noticing only that Puppy couldn't move her lower half. Even yesterday, the scars from bullet holes in both dogs were very small and had to be pointed out.
They called the police and took both dogs to the veterinarian who showed them Puppy's shocking x-rays.But the shooting spree didn't stop there.
Around 11:30 p.m. someone took aim at the second storey room above their garage and shot through a plexy glass window and into a door.Sarah has been sleeping up there but, luckily, she wasn't in the room when it happened.
A total of six bullets were fired at the home. The family also learned that the dusk-to-dawn light near their home had been shot at three times to knock it out. They called the police again, who brought tracking dogs with them but, by this time, any scent of the shooter had been lost.
