Merseyside (UK):
Mystery last night continued to surround the whereabouts of an Australian tourist who vanished hours after arriving in the UK to visit family in Merseyside.
Sonia Freeman, 30, from Perth, arrived at Manchester Airport last Tuesday and was hoping to travel to Kirkby to see family.
But shortly after ringing her relatives in Australia to tell them she had arrived safely, the mother-of-one vanished.
Miss Freeman was expecting to be met at the airport by members of her family, but disappeared. She arrived at the airport early on Tuesday morning and at 7.30am rang her sister in Australia to say she had landed safely.
Two hours later she rang back to say no-one had arrived to pick her up and asked her sister to arrange for a family member, from Stockport, Greater Manchester to collect her.
But when a cousin arrived to pick her up at 12.45pm there was no trace of her. Miss Freeman has not been seen or heard of since.
Her family in the UK said there had been a mix-up because Miss Freeman had arrived a day earlier than expected.
Now Merseyside Police are becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare.
It was the first time Miss Freeman, who has a seven-year-old son, Elijah, in Australia, has been to the UK since her family emigrated about 25 years ago and she was said to be in high spirits when she left.
Her son was supposed to be travelling with her, but at the last minute decided to remain with his father in Australia.
