Body of Three-Year-Old Found in Bag
Chicago (United States):
All police know about the little boy is what he was wearing when he apparently was killed -- navy blue nylon pants and a collarless blue top with three buttons in size 2T.
But who he is and how he wound up dead and left in a wooded area in Naperville remains a mystery, officials in DuPage County said Monday.
"We believe, at this juncture, this child was probably murdered -- although we don't have any firm findings, but based on the way the child was inhumanely discarded," said DuPage County State's Attorney Joe Birkett.
The body of the child, who appears to be about 3, was found Saturday afternoon in unincorporated Naperville near Ferry Road and Meadow Drive by a man walking his dog, officials said.
"His body was concealed inside of a bag or some packaging," Birkett said.
It's a sparsely populated area, and there have no recent reports of missing children in the area, police said over the weekend.
Detectives are now asking for help in identifying the toddler, whose exact age and race remain unknown, according to a statement Monday from the DuPage County Sheriff's Police.
The only description is the clothing -- manufactured by a company called "Faded Glory'' -- and that the child was about 381/2 inches tall, weighed between 25 and 30 lbs. and had short black hair.It was unclear how long the child had been dead, but a forensic entomologist will be working to determine that.
