Blimp with Strange Message Flies for Unknown Person
Twin Cities, MN (United States):
A big visitor is hanging around the Twin Cities skies this month.
An unknown person rented a blimp to fly throughout the area for an entire month with the messages “Enough is enough!” on one side and “Had it up to here?”
The vague messages do not offer a clue as to who leased the blimp. It is so secret, even the pilot doesn’t know who he’s flying for.
Steve Wood, the blimp pilot said, "We work for the Lightship Group and they lease it to whoever the customer is and this is the first time we haven't known who the customer was."
The blimp has been flying the skies for a week, over events like the Twin Cities marathon and the Wild home opener.
Some people thought the message was political, but the pilot thinks otherwise.
“I don't know,” Wood said. “We don't think it's political, some of the guys think it's a phone company but we really don't have any idea."
The only instructions from the mystery client: fly around a lot, make sure lots of people see those messages.Whoever it is, they have quite a budget. It's not cheap to hire a blimp and this ship has flown for Budweiser and other big companies.
WCCO-TV’s Bridgette Bornstein did learn it's called the Red October campaign and the message may change over the next month to keep us guessing.
The company wouldn’t even say how much it costs to lease a blimp but the pilot said the blimp is worth $1.7 million. So the secret behind the mystery blimp is still up in the air, for now.
