Hidden Treasures Revealed at House
Peterhead (UK):
A Peterhead woman has unearthed a set of mystery wall paintings at her home in Hope Street.
Now Linda Sunderland (34), is hoping that someone will be able to identify the scenes and perhaps have information on the artist.
Linda moved into the house only a month ago, and immediately got to work on refurbishing the granite-built 100-years-old property. When it came to decorating the entry hall, Linda said she discovered two layers of wallpaper which had been covered by layers and layers of paint.
Describing her discovery, she told the Buchanie: "I had to get the industrial steamer and started scraping, and it was only after the last layer of paper had been removed that I found the paintings." Linda, who is a full-time student and part-time secretary, says one scene depicts a fishing boat off the coast and thinks it could be Cullen or around that area.
The second scene is a mysterious church by the waterside - perhaps Crimond - while a third connecting scene is just a boat and water.
"I am hoping that someone will be able to identify the scenery and perhaps even help restore the paintings," said Linda.
"It would be great to find out a bit more about them and the artist - a J. Watt - and get the back to their full glory."
Anyone who can help Linda in her quest for information can contact her on 07900 178 213.
