Police Investigating Burnt-Out Boat Mystery
Freeport/Lucaya (Grand Bahama):
Police along with BASRA officials are presently investigating the circumstances surrounding a vessel discovered burning in the waters off Grand Bahama Tuesday afternoon.
At about 1:13 p.m. police received a call from a security officer at Club Viva Fortuna, who reported seeing a boat engulfed in flames at sea, some five miles south of Fortune Point.
Marine Division officers with personnel from the Ocean Recovery Company, proceeded to that location, where they found the smouldering hull of a 26- foot go fast boat, registration #FL-5516JY, with twin 175 horsepower Evinrude Outboards, floating in the water.
A search was carried out in the charred remains, but no persons or bodies were found. A search was then conducted of the surrounding waters, following the tidal drift patterns, but no one was seen.
The burnt-out vessel was later towed to shore, where SOCO (Scene-Of-Crime-Officers) processed it, searching for forensic evidence.
