Gaza (Palestine):
Unknown gunmen kidnapped an Italian national in the south of the Gaza Strip Sunday and held him hostage for several hours before releasing him unharmed in the latest incident of increasing anarchy.
Palestinian security officials said the hostage, identified as Alessandro Bernardini after initially being named as Alessandro Pierro, was freed by Palestinian security forces after a brief exchange of fire and negotiations with his kidnappers, who were assured they would not be harmed.
Witnesses said the abduction occurred when a group of armed and masked militants stopped a vehicle carrying Pierro, who was accompanying a European Union delegation visiting Khan Youins.
