Mafia Theory Twist to JFK plot

The latest book offering a light on the Kennedy death is a 900-page tome, Ultimate Sacrifice by Lamar Waldron and Thom Hartmann which claims that a group of Mafia bosses was behind the killing — and had only called off at the last moment a similar attack on the President’s motorcade during a visit to Tampa, Florida, just four days beforehand.
The authors are two independent researchers who have worked for 17 years on the project, drawing on a new trove of recently declassified documents. At the very least, it will keep the mystery alive.
The book’s central assertion is that Kennedy was plotting a coup to topple Fidel Castro on 1 December 1963 — a coup that would have been followed by a US military invasion of the island. Apparently the Mafia got wind of the conspiracy and then infiltrated it, before organising Kennedy’s assassination. The hand of the Mafia and a Cuban connection are two constants in the rich 40-year history of conspiracy theorising about the Dallas assassination. This, however, is the first time they have been combined in this way.
According to the authors, the mob believed that the federal authorities — then led by Attorney General Robert Kennedy, the President’s brother who was allegedly running the coup plot — would not have pressed an investigation, once they realised such a probe would bring to light the plot against Castro.
