Dyfed-Powys (UK):
The mystery of who broke a window at a premises in a Welsh town has been solved by police using DNA evidence - almost four years after the offence, police say.
The use of modern technology to assist in the detection of crime is clearly at the forefront of police work in Dyfed-Powys, and police said it is not restricted to serious crime. In December 2001, when criminal damage was caused to the window of the TA Centre in Bryn Road, Lampeter, few anticipated that the offender would be caught four years later through the advance of forensic technology.
But a man from Llanybydder, Carmarthenshire has been arrested as a result of forensic evidence and issued with a caution.Similarly, a burglary at the nearby Plascrug Leisure Centre in July 2003 has been solved recently, again using forensic evidence.
