The American ABC television network has confirmed earlier allegations of the Human Rights Watch organization that captive terrorists, including the masterminds of the 9/11 attacks in New York, have been held by the CIA in secret prisons on Polish terrirtory.
According to the ABC, at least a dozen names from among the top captured terrorists have been secretly brought to Poland by the CIA and imprisoned at sites of former Soviet military bases. ABC journalist Richard Esposito told a news conference his network is more than convinced that the information gathered is true.
The list published on the ABC website includes the names of Abu Zubaydah, formerly held in Thailand, Ramzi Binalshibh or Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, who has been accused of planning the 9/11 series of terrorist attacks.
According to the published information, they and other CIA operatives were ultimately to find their way to Poland. Their present whereabouts are speculated to be somewhere at camps in northern parts of Africa. President Aleksander Kwasniewski has denied any knowledge about such covert CIA operations in Poland. Special services coordinator Zbigniew Wasserman says, the matter will be further investigated, but to date nothing could put the president's statement in doubt.
