Paris (France):
The state of health of Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika remains a mystery, with sources in France contradicting official Algerian statements, say reports.
The reports quoted unnamed French officials who described the health of the 68-year-old Bouteflika as "very worrying" and his condition as "critical".
However, the official Algerian news agency, APS, reported late on Monday that the president's office in Algiers said that Bouteflika had undergone an operation for a "bleeding stomach ulcer" and that his condition "presents no reason for worry".
That report was the first official statement on Bouteflika's condition since he was admitted to a Paris hospital on November 26 for treatment of digestive problems.
