Another Serial Killer on the Prowl in Nepal?
Gulf Times, Qatar
_____________
Kathmandu (Nepal):
After the mysterious disappearances of two young European women from the same forest reserve in Nepal, the tabloid press here says a serial killer who preys on women is on the prowl in the country. The new chilling disappearances come almost a year after yesteryear’s notorious “Bikini killer” Charles Sobhraj was sentenced to life imprisonment in Nepal for the murder of two Western tourists in the 1970s.
Reporting on the baffling cases of the two women missing since September, the Nepali Times weekly said in its latest issue that police were “certain they are dealing with a serial killer who raped and killed the women and then buried them somewhere in the reserve”.
Though at least three Western male tourists have been missing since 2003, the disappearances of the two women hit the headlines because of the initiative taken by the government to unravel the mystery.Celine Henri, a 32-year-old French woman, left her hotel in Kathmandu on September 3, saying she would be back in the evening. She never returned. Her family realised she was missing a month later and raised the alarm.
Under the initiative of French ambassador to Nepal, Michel Jolivet, a French embassy team began an investigation that led to the Nagarjun forest reserve about 8km away from Kathmandu. The 16sq km Nagarjun forest is a popular tourist destination, where an army unit guards the gate.
