Cebu City (Philippines):
As the nation observed All Saints’ Day yesterday and marks All Souls’ Day today, Cebuanos were greeted with hair-raising stories of unknown spirit possessing a teen girl and sightings of a macabre man with an unusually long tongue.
The girl, from Argao, Cebu, was immediately taken to a church last Sunday after she was allegedly possessed by an unknown spirit said to be dwelling in a large tree at their backyard. On Sunday night, Lilet (real name withheld upon the request of her parents) was preparing to go to sleep when she suddenly screamed and went wild.
Her father, Ernesto, said her daughter’s eye enlarged as she shouted unintelligible words. A few minutes later, Ernesto said the unknown spirit, speaking thru Lilet, identified herself as "Maricel", a rape-slay victim in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.
The spirit said that she wanted justice, that she did not want to die, and would not leave the world unless her attackers are punished, said Ernesto.
Lilet was immediately taken to the parish church of Argao on Sunday. She was later transferred to a retreat center in Cebu City where she was exorcised by Fr. Fred Krekenbek. In Barangay Busay, this city, Cathy, an account executive for a national newspaper, and her officemates were on a taxi to the Tops, a popular tourist destination in a mountain barangay here, when they saw the spooky man with a torch walking towards their direction.
Cathy said she was shocked when she saw that the man had his tongue stretching to his waist. The man, Cathy said, seemed to be looking for something along the road.
Rubilina Cabajar, a long-time resident in the area, said that sightings of the long-tongued man usually occurred as All Souls’ Day approaches.
