Tafralian Case Remains a Mystery for Now

Manchester, New Hampshire (US):
In the summer of 2004, Bedford was abuzz over the possibility that the body of a Manchester man, missing since 1963, may be ingeniously buried beneath a shallow brook on the east side of town. Retired Manchester police detective Omer Beaudoin lined up regulatory permits and volunteers to do the digging. And the surviving daughter of Alexander Tafralian believed she might finally be able to give her father a proper burial.
A dig, however, remains unlikely. In the short term, heavy rains this fall have swollen the brook, making any dig foolish and likely pushing it back to spring at the earliest, said Bedford Police Chief David Bailey.
But a more nagging problem is the refusal of the owners of the land off Patten Drive to give a blanket approval for a dig. Wes Riley, spokesman for the family that owns the land, said he’s worried about what happens if diggers don’t find a car and a body, but a storage tank loaded with oil or chemicals. He said he wants financial guarantees that his family won’t be responsible for any cleanup costs.
