Riddle of a Man who Stole Identity of a Dead Baby

Police last night appealed for help in discovering the true identity of this mysterious "Jackal" conman.
The man called himself Christopher Edward Buckingham. But he stole the name from a dead baby in 1983 just like the assassin in the film The Day of the Jackal.
No one knows who he really is - including his ex-wife and their two teenage children.
Buckingham, a self-styled lord with crested notepaper, is facing up to two years in jail after admitting a false statement to obtain a passport.
He was caught when a routine check for the application revealed the real Christopher Edward Buckingham died as a baby in 1963.
Buckingham, who claims to be 42, admitted obtaining the infant's birth certificate but will still not reveal his real identity.
His ex-wife Jody Doe, mother of Buckingham's children Lindsey, 19, and Edward, 17, was yesterday at home after the birth of a baby with her second husband, Peter.
She said: "Lindsey and Edward are now in the position of not really knowing who their own father really is. This is a man who has concealed his true identity for more than 20 years."
Buckingham worked as a computer repairman in Zurich during his time with Canadian-born Jody, 40. He walked out on the family in the late 90s.
Mrs Doe said Buckingham told her he was an only child and his parents were dead. She said: "He was a very secretive man and I came to accept it."
Until his arrest he was living in a three- bedroom house in Northampton. He pleaded guilty at Canterbury crown court and was remanded in custody for sentencing on November 8.
Det Con Dave Sprigg, of Kent Police, who led the investigation, said: "I think he must have something terrible to hide. I want to know that secret."
